about postpartum support calgary

Our mission is to cultivate connections, normalize postpartum and validate families in their own unique experiences. We want to connect parents with their community and the incredible resources and professionals it has to offer.

Postpartum Support Calgary is a peer-run organization aimed at normalizing postpartum and validating parents experiences in a supportive group setting. We work to cultivate community, providing mothers and their families with support, information and resources for all things postpartum. Parents who receive regular, compassionate and non-judgemental peer support have an increased positive impact on their mental wellbeing.

With our meet-ups and events, we strive to meet the four pillars of support for all families; emotional (therapy + peer support), physical (exercise, + walking groups), spiritual (hobbies, connection to self, intuition), and practical (household tasks, meals, laundry, childcare). If we are going to make meaningful changes to mental health support, we need to ensure mothers have access to meet all four pillars. We work to compliment existing local resources and collaborate with partners and professionals in our community. We provide support to all families, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, background, religion or philosophy.

Postpartum Support Calgary started in 2017 as an extension to the free support group, Sacred Nest Mothers Village. We realized that in order to build community and connection, where mothers and their families could grow together, we needed more meet-ups and opportunities to have real, raw and safe conversations around the changes that come with postpartum. We created a small little facebook group to do just that and today its members have grown to over 1000.

Jennifer is the founder of Postpartum Support Calgary and the owner of Sacred Nest Perinatal Support Services.

She is a full spectrum doula, supporting families through fertility to postpartum. She works in practice as a Lactation Educator and Belly Bind Wrap Artist. Jennifer trained with the Pacific Post Partum Support Society to provide mom to mom support for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She currently facilitates peer-support groups and information workshops.
